We’re being conned…. again

Just a quick ‘heads up’ to those of you that are supporting purchase of electric vehicles.  There’s a big hole looming ahead…. not a pothole in the road (though there are plenty of those) …but a hole in the UK finances.

If you remove income from tax paid on petrol and diesel then you have a massive £28 billion hole in revenue.

The idea is to collect this missing revenue by putting toll charges on major roads. They’re sneaking this one in without making a big song and dance about it.

Hmmm stealth tax.

The reason I’m flagging this up is the number of newspaper articles that compare the running cost of electric vehicles with petrol or diesel equivalent.  All of these articles show how the electric alternative is far cheaper than the combustion engine.

Now correct me if I’m wrong here but all these articles have petrol and diesel costs that include the tax demanded by the revenue service – whilst the EV has no tax applied.

Surely, for an accurate comparison, you should add the toll charges that must be introduced in the future back onto the EV cost per mile which would then give a more accurate comparison.

Just saying.

It’s not quite as simple a picture as gets painted.
